The PTA Overland ART DEPT is a passionate community of creative parent volunteers that believe the ARTS are integral to the growth, educational success and mental health of our children.
Where District funding for Art is low, along with FOO providing Overland with private courses of 'Barnsdale Art', our Parent Led Art Program delivers bi weekly sessions, ensuring each class receives a full consistent schedule of Art lessons taught by scheduled teams of Creative parents from all walks of life.
Along with devising and producing one of Overland's biggest PTA yearly school wide specticles, The Art show @ Open House , the Art dept bring in extra curriculum activities for our students such as Speciality Art Galleries for School Events and holidays as well as providing ART-IVITIES for our kids at PTA and Foo community Events.
Our team of creative volunteers also provide School with graphic design and events branding, decor and beautifying campus billboards and displays along with researching new and inventive educational art resources to bring into Overland.
PARENT LED ART
Thanks to the wealth of art lessons and teaching tips available on the internet today, parent volunteers can be highly effective at teaching art. It's not necessary to be a professional artist or have an art background to teach kids. All you need are the appropriate lesson plans to follow, and the ability to engage and inspire children.
Whether you take on the role of an art lead, organizing your class's art curriculum and team, or an art volunteer who wants to lead a few lessons or assist other parents, our focus for PARENT LED ART is on TEAMWORK. Parents of various backgrounds and grade levels come together to research, share, and brainstorm exciting new techniques and lesson plans to enrich our kids' education.
Supplies and funding for parent-led art lessons are generously donated by art parents themselves, pta class donations, fundraising efforts such as the Sq 1 Art project, in-school art supply drives, and the yearly ART SHOW Class Art Sale.

THE ART SHOW
Gone are the days of hanging a few handprints on the classroom walls for parents to admire during Open House. Every spring at Overland, the art parents lead the Eagles in creating their own spectacular art exhibit, transforming our campus into an interactive, immersive community art event that showcases every student, class, and grade.
In addition to designing and showcasing their own "work of art" in their class's chosen exhibit, our parent volunteers collaborate with STAR to lead live art projects and additional community exhibits during recess and after school Star and BTB time, empowering and immersing the students in the pre-production and entertainment aspects of the show.

NEW FUNDRAISER ANNOUNCED SOON
Every year Overland takes part in the Square 1 Art fundraiser, where our Art parents lead each class in a personal masterpiece to be sent away to be printed on to keepsakes and holiday gifts for parents to order & purchase. Not only do our mini creatives get to feel empowered seeing their work on a range of merchandise to gift family and friends, but our school receives a small % of all sales which helps towards funding supplies for the Art lessons and the Overland Art Show. In 2023 our Sq 1 fundraiser made close to $2,000.

LAUSD ARTS FUNDING TO RESTOCK ART SUPPLIES
June 2023
A HUGE THANKYOU TO PRINCIPLE JONES AND THE OCC for allocating funding from the recent new LAUSD ARTS FUNDS to revive and restock our parent led Art supply closet. Our Eagles and Art parents will now have access to a fully stocked closet of professional grade Art supplies along with a brand new supply of Waycon Digital Art tablets, Take home Art journals, Clay modeling, Tiling, Acrylic paint pens and many more extra curriculum Art supplies to inspire our budding Artists.

ART SALE DOUBLED BY MICKEY MOUSE!

Thanks to all your generous donations and Auction Bids from our Eagle's Art Sale at the Art Show@Open House. We made a whopping $1800 (thanks to our PTA Art lead & Docent, Beth Onstad for doubling the amount via the Matching Gift program at ILM/Disney). This Funding will be used for re-stocking Art supplies, extra curriculum Art projects and next years Art show.

Our Eagles, Parent Art Volunteers and the Star team are in full flow creating their chosen Country class Exhibits and class Auction items ready for the Art Show@ Openhouse on Wednesday 29th March. Look out for a special surprise International Cultural Performance featuring a Chinese Dragon Dance, Taekwondo, Bollywood Dancing and the talented Eagles from BTB and Star performing the new Overland Theme Song with an International twist.
